Temporarily closed (July 2026): Għar Lapsi took the brunt of Storm Harry in January 2026 — the slipways and access ramp were destroyed. A €2 million government rebuild is underway and the site is expected to reopen once works complete. The reef and caves below the surface are untouched. I'll update this page the moment it's diveable again — in the meantime, see the full story on the blog.
Għar Lapsi on Malta's south-west coast is a sheltered little cove riddled with caverns and swim-throughs in shallow water. It's a firm favourite for training and for relaxed, pottering dives — easy entry, plenty of rock to weave through, shafts of light in the caves, and lots of small life. A lovely, low-stress site whatever your level.
Good news: this site is well within reach of recreational and advanced recreational divers — no technical certification needed to enjoy it. Come and dive it with me, and when you’re ready to push deeper into Malta’s technical sites, here’s where to head next:
