Advanced Technical

AdvancedTrimix

No depth limit. That's what this certification removes — the ceiling. HMS Olympus at 90m, ORP Kujawiak at 65m, HMS Southwold at 73m. If you've got the experience and the right head for it, we'll get you there.

What This Course Is

Advanced Trimix genuinely builds on everything that came before. To get the most out of it you'll want 200 dives behind you and a Trimix cert — not just as boxes to tick, but because the experience makes the course make sense. The deeper stuff requires a level of underwater comfort that comes from time in the water, and this course helps you develop that further.

That said — if you're ready for it, there is genuinely nothing like it. HMS Olympus lies at around 90 metres off the north coast of Malta. She's a submarine. An actual British T-class submarine that went down in 1942, and she sits there relatively intact, and she is completely extraordinary. You don't get to dive her on a Trimix Diver cert. You get to dive her on this one.

The course runs 7–10 days because it needs to. We're talking about high-helium blends, potentially to well beyond 60 metres, with extended decompression obligations that can run well over an hour. The planning alone for these dives takes time to get right. I've seen experienced divers come in and be genuinely surprised by the complexity of a proper deep trimix dive plan — the number of cylinders, the gas switches, the contingencies within contingencies. We go through all of it methodically.

ORP Kujawiak is another one — a Polish destroyer at 65m that most divers never see because it requires proper technical preparation. HMS Southwold at 73m is achievable on standard Trimix but the bottom time is short; at Advanced Trimix level you can actually spend meaningful time on her. These are the rewards for doing the work.

I know exactly what it feels like to be pushed to my absolute limit underwater. I've been there. And the thing I learned from those experiences is that the limit has to be a long way from where you're actually operating on any given dive. This course teaches you to build those margins deliberately and conservatively — then work within them.

What It Opens Up

Advanced Trimix removes the depth ceiling on open-circuit diving. Everything Malta has to offer at any depth is now accessible — and Malta has more than most places. From a career perspective it's also the technical diving prerequisite for TDI Technical Instructor at the deepest levels. But honestly, the reason people do this course is HMS Olympus. That's reason enough.
